STOP SAYING, “I HAVE TO” AND START SAYING “I GET TO”

Just wanted to write a quick post with a reminder of the blessings we don’t even realize we have. Last night I overheard someone say “Tomorrow is going to suck! I have to wake up at 5:30am”

I thought. Why would you speak that over your day before it has even started? Saying things like, “I am going to be tired tomorrow, I have to go to work, and have to finish a report, I have so much stuff I HAVE TO DO, tomorrow is going to suck!” Why do we set ourselves up like that? Because seriously, you could not wake up at all at 5:30am! Now that would definitely in fact SUCK!! Complaining about household chores like “I have to clean the house and make dinner; I have to get the kids ready.” You could not have a home to clean and not have a family to take care of. I know this seems a touch exaggerated.

But those day-to-day mundane things, the things that we scoff at having to do, are the things we look back on and wish we would have been in the moment a little longer. Because those extra busy times don’t last forever.

Those are the memories for your kids, that they will talk about when they are older, and things they will emulate for their own families because that is how they were raised.

They are the things we will miss when older and retired. Feeling needed and important, having a purpose, like going to work and taking care of family are blessings whether we realize it now, or not.

That is why so many people continue to work or find jobs later in life. They actually miss feeling like they had a purpose for the day.

Let’s start saying “I GET TO” I get to wake up at 5:30, I get to go to work! I get to make dinner for my family. I get to get my kids ready. Because one day, we won’t HAVE TO OR GET TO Anymore.

Let’s face it Adulting is hard. Sometimes we just don’t have it in us. But on those days if we can muster up the strength to flip from “I have to” to “I get to” The universe may leave us little synchronicities and signs because it sees we are approaching life with gratitude! What you think about you bring about! Expect good things!!!

I wrote a blog post about the power of “I AM” and how what we say after those 2 little words can affect our lives as well! you can check it out here!!
